About Me
Kirty Singh is a M.A student at the CUNY Graduate Center for the Women and Gender Studies Department. She graduated with a BA in Women and Gender Studies and Sociology and works in digital marketing as her full time job. She found inspiration for this paper through a tiktok video outlining an Indian women was reclaiming the sari or reverting it to a style that was used before the British and Nationalistic impostion of use of blouse and petticoat. From there, I went down the rabbit hole and discovered how the sari was not only a beauty marker but used to display class, caste and ideal femininity as symbol for "Indianness".
