Coco Chanel's Little Black Dress

Coco Chanel's Little Black Dress - Vogue 1926

Coco Chanel changed the face of wearing black with the introduction of her iconic Little Black Dress, commonly referred to now simply as the LBD.  Although, in 1926 when her iconic creation appeared on the pages of fashion magazines in Paris and America, the term was hardly a familiar one.  However, it would soon become a popular term and fashion staple in women’s wardrobes. The illustration of her dress appeared in American Vogue in October 1926 and then in French Vogue the following month in November. It depicted a sheath dress in black crepe-de-chine stopping just below the knee with long, close fitting sleeves, a boat neckline and adorned by a thick string of pearls
