Designer: FrancyG: Maria Francesca Nigro and Emanuela Errico
Materials: embroidery and appliques, detail on mantel.
Maria Francesca Nigro and Emanuela Errico were born in
San Benedetto Ullano and Santa Sofia d’Epiro, two small villages
in the province of Cosenza, enclaves of the Arbëreshë people,
also known as Italo-Albanians. For more than five centuries, the
Arbëreshë brought their land’s customs and traditions, epic poetry
and song, folklore and Byzantine rites to this part of Calabria and
made it their home. Even today, fiercely proud of their ancient
traditions, the Arbëreshë keep all parts of their culture alive,
including their dialect. The “Errico-Nigro” duo went on
to win first prize for fashion design at the annual Moda Movie competition in June 2017.
Ensemble: Trousers in Shantung silk with an ivory silk Micado mantel. The mantel has embroideries and appliques in mosaic form inspired by the “Galla Placida” in Ravina, Italy.
