In the fall of 2016, there were a series of workshops in which students produced hand made projects. These will continue as the project evolves.

A conference in May 2017 was launched with keynote speakers, Ann Rosalind Jones and Peter Stallybrass. Students then presented their work throughout the day, with a break for a weaving workshop led by Callen Zimmerman and Kat Roberts.

During the production of the Fabric of Cultures: Systems in the Making exhibit, it became clear that

the current project has a history and evolution more geared to furthering an exploration of the teaching of fashion within the multidisciplinary perspective made possible by the CUNY; the role of the Made in Italy label; the act and labor of making; and the practices of consumption in a new geopolitical and economic contexts
