Shane Michael Manieri

Contributing Editor

Born in New Orleans to Sicilian immigrants, Shane Michael Manieri often spent time in a hair salon watching his fashionista aunt do hair to some of the Crescent City’s most elite. Manieri later became a hair stylist himself in New York City and has worked on some of NYC’s art scene intellectuals, as well as several of Hollywood’s top actors and celebrities. Although friends and family encouraged Manieri to further follow the world of fashion and hairstyling, he ultimately pursued a BA in Liberal Arts, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. Manieri is now a PhD candidate in Comparative Literature at The Graduate Center, where he is examining the role fashion has had on art, literature, social justice, gender and mental health and vice versa. His honors include an Italian translation fellowship at Scuola Holden in Turin, and a year-long, full-immersion language scholarship at University for Foreigners in Perugia, Italy.
